Adult Christian Education for September:
All Our Children | Sept. 10, 24 | Kate Kennedy, The Rev. Lauren Holder
You may have noticed the young faces in our park and on the streets around St. Luke’s—faces that know too much trauma and too little classroom experience or support.  St. Luke’s has been in deep discernment over the past three years about how to respond to the homeless children among us and the injustice of education inequality that continues to plague our city and nation.  On September 10, 24 and October 1, we ask you to join our efforts in a new and bold way.  You will not want to miss out on this next chapter.  Contact The Rev. Lauren Holder with questions—and mark your calendars for “the next big thing.”
The Sunday Paper |Sept. 10, 17,  24 |Matt Boyer, C.J. Cash and Jonathan Serrie
A free-flowing discussion about current events, faith and their intersection in our daily lives facilitated by Jonathan Serrie. Our discussions each week will be informed by scripture, national or local news sources. All views, thoughts and opinions are welcomed and encouraged.
BCP 101 | Sept 17, 24 | The Rev. Elizabeth Shows Caffey
You see that red prayer book in the pew racks in front of you, but do you know what is in there?  This book contains the structure for Holy Eucharist, Baptism and many other of our sacred liturgies.  Did you know that there are prayers intended for use at home? This class is a quick romp introducing and re-introducing us all to the Book of Common Prayer.
This Sunday, Sept. 10:

Healing and Hearing with Horace: Pastoral Care Forums
... Parishioners are invited to a conversation with The Rev. Horace Griffin, the new associate for Pastoral Care and Parish Life, about pastoral care interests and needs at St. Luke’s. All are invited to these important conversations.
The first of three forums is today, for seniors (70 and older), at 12:30 p.m. in the Hamilton Room. A light lunch will be provided. Next Sunday, September 17, will be for young and middle-aged adults (same format).  Please RSVP to Horace or Beth, the rector’s executive assistant, so that we can prepare lunch accordingly. On Sunday, September 24 the youth with meet with Horace during their Sunday 2.0 meeting.

Sunday 2.0 Kickoff Cookout ... All are invited to celebrate the start of the program year at our annual Kickoff Cookout. We eat at 5 p.m. in The Park.
  • Rehearsals for Junior and Senior Choristers and Preparatory Choir are at 4:15 p.m. Regular Chorister schedules will resume next week (see next page for details) September 17! We can’t wait to start the year strong, so please register for choristers and plan to join us on Rally Day! If you have any questions please contact Music Associate Caitlin Dowling (caitlin@stlukesatlanta.org | 404-873-7634).
  • EYC begins its lawn games - most prominently laser tag - after grabbing a bite to eat.

Bible Study ...   Join us Wednesdays at 11 a.m. in the Parkins Room. We’re focusing on Romans. We will delve into theology in the making as Paul wrestles with enduring issues: justification and grace, sin and salvation, a vision of unity, and the faithfulness of God—the same issues that believers have contemplated throughout the history of the church. This study of Romans is particularly timely, as we observe the upcoming 500th anniversary of the Reformation, 1517-2017. We will talk about the role that Paul’s letter played in the life of reformer Martin Luther and the events surrounding the Reformation. All are welcome!

Choir Rehearsal ... Wednesdays at 7:20 p.m. in the Choir Room.

Young Adults’ Manuel’s Meet Up ... If you’re between the ages of 21-38, you’re invited to join us Thursday, Sept. 21 at 6 p.m. for community and a guided discussion at Manuel’s Tavern in Poncey-Highlands. Our rector, Dan Matthews, will join us for this first Meet Up of the new program year. This a great opportunity of newcomers as well as long-time members to meet fellow young adults. And mark it on your calendars, we meet every 3rd Thursday at Manuel’s.

Lawn Games for Atlanta Streets Alive ... St. Luke's is on the route for this annual-family-friendly day of activities one Sunday, September 24, 2 - 6 p.m. along Peachtree Street (atlantastreetsalive.com). The Evangelism Committee is serving as an activity host and inviting our neighbors to join us in the park for some lawn games. We hope you'll come outside and play with us! If you have any lawn games (cornhole, badminton, large bubble wands, frisbees or similar) that you can lend for the day, or if you'd be willing to volunteer in handing our water, greeting visitors and helping the day go smoothly, please contact Stephanie Hendricks at shendricks91@gmail.com.

Fall Dig Day ... Please join us in the Mustard Seed Garden on Saturday, September 30, from 9-11 a.m., as we harvest the remainder of our summer veggies, refresh the beds, and plant cooler weather crops. EYC to Atlanta United ... The youth are heading to Atlanta United FC’s second-ever soccer game at the new stadium on Sunday, Oct. 22. Please RSVP to Carrie Teegardin (Carrie.Teegardin@ajc.com) as she will purchase group tickets. We also need parent chaperones for this event!

EYC Text Group ... Leaders among our youth have impressed upon us that teens do not use email, so we’ve created a text group as a communication tool for parent volunteers and others who are leading the youth program until we have a new staff person to stay in touch with the youth and their parents. TEXT: StLukesEYC to 64600. (As with all our electronic communications, you can unsubscribe whenever you like.)

Medicare 101 ... If you are trying to navigate healthcare after 65, you need to join us on Wednesday, September 28 at 1:30 p.m. in the Hamilton Room for a presentation on your many options.
