You see that red prayer book in the pew racks in front of you, but do you know what is in there? This book contains the structure for Holy Eucharist, Baptism and many other of our sacred liturgies. Did you know that there are prayers intended for use at home? This class is a quick romp introducing and re-introducing us all to the Book of Common Prayer.
Fill the Outreach Baskets ... In October, we’re filling the baskets with Christmas stocking stuffers, such as small-size toiletries, socks, flashlights, decks of cards, dominoes - you get the idea - for Holy Comforter Church. Please place your donations in the Outreach baskets located in the Narthex and Reception Area.
Men’s Breakfast ... The Rev. Horace Griffin, the newest member of St. Luke’s clergy staff, will be our speaker this Tuesday, Oct. 10. All men of St. Luke’s - and their friends and colleagues - are invited to attend. Coffee begins at 7 a.m. with breakfast served at 7:30 a.m. followed by a program from 8-8:30 a.m.; Cost: $5.00. Presiding Bishop at St. Luke’s .... The Rt. Rev. Michael Curry will preach at a noontime Eucharist on Friday, October 13 as part of the national Vergers conference meeting at St. Luke’s this week. Bishop Wright will celebrate. All are welcome.
Festival Choir for Presiding Bishop’s Visit ... Have you ever wanted to sing in the choir but weren’t ready for a full year commitment? Have you ever wanted to hear the Presiding Bishop, Michael Curry, preach? Well here’s your opportunity to do both! On Friday, Oct 13, the Presiding Bishop will be coming to St. Luke’s for a Eucharist Service at 12 p.m., and there will be a Diocesan-wide choir singing for the event! If you’ve sung in choirs before, but just don’t have the time for a weekly commitment, this is your one-time-only chance to sing! St. Luke’s Sunday ... is October 22. This year’s celebration will be a little different. We will worship together at 10 a.m. The choir will present the John Rutter “Gloria” with brass, timpani, and organ, and we’ll welcome The Rev. Charles Maynard as our guest preacher. After the service, we’ll Feast Among Friends and enjoy a delicious Sunday dinner together and tell St. Luke’s stories. Dedication of Sacristy ... Join us on Sunday, October 29 at 5 p.m. for an Open House and dedication of our beautifully renovated sacristy. We’ll enjoy wine and cheese, tour the sacristy and gather in prayer as we bless this lovely, sacred space. Books and Little People ... The Nursery could use donations of board books and “Little People” play sets, especially the Noah’s Ark set. Please drop off your donations outside of Elizabeth’s office. If you have questions, contact Becky Mick (678-467-3510).
Bible Study ... Join us Wednesdays at 11 a.m. in the Parkins Room to study Romans. All are welcome!
Choir Rehearsal ... Wednesdays at 7:20 p.m. in the Choir Room.
EYC to Uncle Shuck’s ...Too old to trick or treat, but want to have some Halloween fun? The youth group is heading off for our annual visit to the haunted corn maze on Saturday, October 21 from 5-10 p.m. If you don’t enjoy being scared, don’t worry! Both a haunted and a non-haunted maze will be available for you to choose from. If you plan to attend, you must sign up online. There is no cost for this trip but make sure to bring a few bucks if you want to purchase food at the maze. They have everything from hot cocoa, to kettle corn and much more! Meet at the church in Room 203 at 5:30 p.m. sharp and be prepared for a hauntingly good time!! Parents are needed as chaperones and drivers for this fun event!!
Faith and Film ....gathers this Friday, October 13 at 7 p.m. to watch Little Boy, the story of an eight-year-old boy willing to do whatever it takes to end World War II so he can bring his father home. Faith and Film is a monthly opportunity for St. Luke’s adults to share a movie, snacks, fellowship, and a lively discussion of issues of faith raised by the film. Pride Volunteers ... Providing hospitality during the annual Atlanta Pride Parade is a St. Luke’s tradition. This year’s parade passes in front of the church next Sunday, October 15 from about Noon-3 p.m. We are looking for parishioners of all ages who will help hand out bottles of water. Join us for this fun afternoon of hospitality. If you sign up online to volunteer, we’ll even feed you lunch beforehand. Young Adults Manuel’s Meet Up .... If you’re between the ages of 21-38, you’re invited to join us Thursday, Oct. 19 at 6 p.m. for community and a guided discussion at Manuel’s Tavern in Poncey-Highlands. This a great opportunity of newcomers as well as long-time members to meet fellow young adults. And mark it on your calendars, we meet every 3rd Thursday at Manuel’s. Learning Mindfulness Group Update ... Matt Wagner, LPC and therapist at Training and Counseling Center (TACC), is facilitating another six-week group focused on the practice of mindfulness. The Learning Mindfulness Group incorporates meditation, body movements, and discussion as ways to raise our awareness to the present moment without judgment and with acceptance. New dates: Wednesday evenings (7-8:30 p.m.), beginning Oct. 11 and ending Nov. 15. Participants must be at least 18. Peace in Our Time ... Join us next Sunday, October 15 at 12:30 p.m. in the Garden for this monthly prayer service. We gather the third Sunday each month to pray together for an end to gun violence and terrorism.
