Midtown Assistance Center
St. Luke’s is a founding congregation of this interfaith ministry, which began 23 years ago as a way for midtown churches to more efficiently coordinate their efforts and resources to serve the working poor in our midst. Now supported by numerous local congregations and businesses, MAC provides assistance to the working poor in midtown and downtown Atlanta to prevent homelessness and hunger during periods of crisis. St. Luke’s currently organizes an annual Summer Food Drive for the MAC food pantry and clothing drives for the clothing closet. Our Vacation Bible School children volunteer in the clothing closet to keep items ready for distribution. In addition, parishioners volunteer at its offices on Porter Street. During 2008, MAC provided $405,920 in assistance in 6,560 emergency situations.
