It's time again for the annual Gospel Grill. This Sunday --May 27-- at 6:00 PM in the Hamilton Room/Garden. The evening will include the regular pot luck dinner and social period. Bring your own selection to grill and wine or beer if desired. Non-alcoholic beverages will be provided. Loaves & Fishes is a social gathering for St. Luke’s adults to be in community the last Sunday evening of each month. Give a mug, take a mug

Join us in this new summer project to help our efforts to be greener, cutting down on the use of paper cups. Clean out your cabinets and bring all of those coffee mugs you've collected but never use and put them in the collection basket located in the Reception area. On Sundays, use one of the mugs we collect for your coffee or tea (take them with you if you want coffee/tea to go).

And, speaking of being greener: You may have noticed the new blue recycling bins throughout the building. ALL recycling goes in them. There's no need to sort, but we do need to make the effort to use them. Help us to be good stewards of God's creation.

FILL THE BASKETS: MONTHLY OUTREACH COLLECTIONS

Throughout May, Outreach is asking for donations of gas cards for families traveling to visit relatives in prison and children's school supplies for the Georgia Justice Project, an organization working to ensure justice for the indigent criminally accused and their families.

The Georgia Justice Project's approach works. The recidivism rate for GJP clients is just over 15% - less than 1/3 the national average.

Georgia Justice Project attorneys represent people accused of crimes in Fulton and Dekalb counties. We provide high quality legal defense so that our clients feel someone has fought for them and that justice has been served. But we don’t stop there – in fact, we don’t even start there. GJP social workers are a critical part of our case assessment and intake process, and – in return for free legal representation - GJP clients must agree to work on the underlying issues that got them in trouble in the first place – often addiction, unemployment, low education, homelessness, etc.

No matter how the legal case is resolved, we stay with our clients. If they must spend time in prison, we visit them and make sure their families can visit as well. Georgia’s prisons are located all over the state, and trips can be costly for families. Gas cards help offset the costs of visits for these family members who want to maintain contact with their loved ones.

Whenever possible, GJP also makes a commitment to the extended family of our clients – providing emergency cash assistance, counseling, and ongoing support. One of the key ways we do this is through a Back 2 School festival we hold each year for all of our clients (past and present) and their families. The event is fun and information-filled and always includes a fully-stocked backpack for each school-age child. Our hope is to help offset this relatively large expense for parents and to start the children off on the right foot for a new school year. We are in need of the following supplies:

Fill the Baskets is a monthly program of the Outreach Committee. Baskets for your donations are located in front of the altar, in the Narthex, and in the reception area. Detailed lists of items being collected may be found at the reception desk and online in the Outreach area.

St. Luke's kids know a value when they see one! For just 12 bucks, you can save a life! The children’s Sunday School is kicking off our campaign to fight malaria in sub-Saharan Africa through Nets for Life. A donation of a mere $12 purchases and sends a malaria net to someone who needs one! The children will be collecting donations throughout May, when every dollar raised in Episcopal Churches will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $430,000.

He will describe the trends as evidenced in social media, the self-focus of our youth, public debt and its effect on public policy, and the role of the faith community. Dig Day in the Garden

Please join us on Saturday, May 5, from 9:00 to 11:00 am as we harvest cool weather produce and plant our summer crop. Bring gardening gloves and other items as needed (hat, sunscreen, bug spray). Drinks will be provided. Produce from the Mustard Seed Garden is donated to Clyde's Kitchen at Crossroads. We hope to see you there!

TACC's Premarital Workshop set for May 7

The quarterly Premarital Workshop will be held Saturday, May 7 from 8:30-1:30 at TACC. Rev. Rebekah Hatch will lead the group. Cost is $125.00 per couple, which includes reading materials, light breakfast food and a free couple session with a TACC therapist during the first year of marriage. St. Luke's hosts dinner at Holy Comforter

Join us in serving supper to the folks at Holy Comforter this Wednesday, April 18. We meet at Holy Comforter at 6pm. As part of St. Luke's Outreach Ministry, we provide a meal once a month. Holy Comforter parish consists mostly of mentally challenged individuals living in group homes.
